The Hidden Reality

When we talk about domestic violence, the conversation often focuses on women as victims. While this is an important issue that deserves attention, there’s another side of the story that rarely gets told: men suffer too.

According to various studies, a significant percentage of domestic violence victims are men. Yet, they suffer in silence due to:

  • Social stigma - Men are expected to be “strong” and not show vulnerability
  • Lack of support systems - Very few shelters and helplines exist for male victims
  • Legal bias - Laws often assume the man is the aggressor
  • Fear of ridicule - Society often mocks male victims

The Case That Opened Our Eyes

Recently, in Banda, UP, a man named Balram asked his wife for food. Her response? She stabbed him in the neck. As he fights for his life in the ICU, she fled with the children.

This is not an isolated incident. Thousands of men face such violence but never report it.

What We Can Do

  1. Speak up - If you or someone you know is suffering, don’t stay silent
  2. Support gender-neutral laws - Laws should protect everyone equally
  3. Share stories - Visibility leads to change
  4. Challenge stereotypes - Men can be victims too
